Omoleye’s Media Office Faults JDPI, NUJ’s Misleading Report, Highlights Lawmaker’s Outstanding Performance in Two Years

The Media Office of the federal lawmaker representing Ekiti Central Federal Constituency II, Hon. Biodun Omoleye, has strongly refuted a recent report which rated his performance in the National Assembly as poor, describing it as “a clear misrepresentation of facts and a disservice to truth and responsible journalism.”

According to the media team, the report, credited to an online news blog citing an alleged independent assessment by the Justice Development and Peace Initiative (JDPI), Catholic Diocese of Ekiti and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ekiti State Council, fails to capture the lawmaker’s visible and verifiable achievements in the past two years.

In a statement released on Tuesday, 2nd of July, 2025, the lawmaker’s media office insisted that contrary to the publication’s claims, Hon. Omoleye has made tremendous strides in legislative duties, infrastructure development, youth and women empowerment, and community development since assuming office in June 2023.

The media office expressed disappointment that the Catholic Church, a globally respected church, can descend so low in dishing out such falsehoods and politically motivated reports to the public. They also expressed surprise that the Nigeria Union of Journalists, whose members have been covering programmes and activities of Hon. Omoleye, could be part of such shenanigans.

“Bringing a Kabiyesi not from Omoleye’s Constituency to validate wrong assessment is also an anomaly”

“Hon. Biodun Omoleye is not only visible in the National Assembly, but his performance scorecard is open, robust, and people-centred. From effective lawmaking and motions of national interest to impactful empowerment programmes and infrastructural interventions, his representation has been both dynamic and transformative,” the statement read.

Specifically addressing the allegation that Hon. Omoleye has not held town hall meetings or remains inaccessible to constituents, the statement clarified that the lawmaker maintains open channels of engagement with his people, including regular stakeholder meetings, community consultations, constituency tours, and feedback platforms through his, office, aides and media platforms.

“It is on record that Hon. Omoleye has held multiple stakeholder engagement sessions since assuming office, during which he interacted with traditional rulers, youth leaders, women groups, religious leaders and community development associations across the three local governments in the constituency. These engagements are often conducted both formally and informally in various communities,” the statement noted.

“Accessibility has never been an issue. Constituents frequently engage with Hon. Omoleye through meetings, social media platforms, and at public events. He maintains close ties with the grassroots and has always responded to the yearnings of his people,” the team added.

On the claim that only party members benefited from his empowerment programmes, the media office described the allegation as “baseless, unfair and insulting to the diverse composition of beneficiaries who cut across political, religious, social and ethnic lines.”

According to the statement, Hon. Omoleye’s empowerment programmes were inclusive and merit-based, targeting vulnerable populations such as widows, artisans, small-scale farmers, youths, students and persons with disabilities, regardless of political affiliation.

“Beneficiaries of Hon. Omoleye’s interventions are well documented, and many have publicly testified to the life-changing impact of these programmes, including non-partisan constituents.”

Reeling out his Key Legislative Contributions so far, the statement explains that Hon. Omoleye, who chairs the House Committee on Nigeria-Canada Parliamentary Friendship, has sponsored critical bills including the proposal to establish a Federal College of Nursing and Midwifery in Ijero-Ekiti; a strategic move aimed at strengthening the healthcare workforce, boosting education, and creating jobs across the constituency.

He also moved a notable motion advocating a review of Nigeria’s disaster policy and proposed the creation of a national disaster insurance scheme to ensure timely and adequate relief for disaster victims.

In the areas of empowerment and human capacity development, Omoleye in his first 100 days, launched a constituency-wide empowerment programme, distributing tools and materials to artisans, traders and farmers to improve their livelihoods. In fact, it is on the record that Hon. Biodun Omoleye was the only National Assembly member from Ekiti State who marked his 100 days in office with such an empowerment programme.

Since then, over five major empowerment programmes have been held, targeting women, youth, and persons with special needs.

These include a training and support programme for 100 women on Adire fabric production, a youth seminar featuring experts in ICT, agriculture, and governance, a strategic empowerment scheme where over 500 artisans and farmers received tools to support their trades and Provision of over 150 mattresses, pillows and bathroom slippers to the School for the Deaf in Ikoro-Ekiti, while establishment of the first National Youth Centre in Ijurin-Ekiti, now nearing completion.

Beneficiaries, like Mrs. Odunayo Awe of Ipoti-Ekiti, Mr Adebisi Akinsola and Mr Dare Adetule from Ijero-Ekiti have testified that these interventions have changed their lives for the better, making them self-reliant and productive members of society.

Similarly, the Olupole of Ipole-Iloro, Oba Babalola Oladele, personally issued a statement to thank Hon. Omoleye for the construction of 6 classrooms at the town’s Community Grammar School.

Hon. Omoleye has also executed multiple community-based projects in the areas of infrastructure and social services, such as Solar-powered streetlights in at least eleven towns across the constituency and the installation of a 33,000 KVA transformer to restore the power supply in Efon-Alaaye.

In Efon local government, the solar lights were installed at Federal Girls College, Police station premises, High Court premises, local government council secretariat, Itawure and Ita-ido transit.

Also at Okemesi, the solar street lights were strategically installed at Odo-ese, Oke Irena, Palace-odo Uba and Anglican church/General Hospital Road.

For Ipoti-Ekiti, the solar street lights were installed at Alajugba street, maternity road and Eyigbo road, while at Ejiyan, we have the solar lights at Eleyio compound and Aramoko road. Ijero township and the High Court also benefited from Omoleye’s light-up projects.

Installation of street lights is also ongoing at the Ekameta ward of Ijero local government, which comprises Ara, Epe and Araromi-Ekiti.

Others are the Construction of a six-classroom block at Ipole-Iloro Community Grammar School and ongoing plans to rehabilitate rural roads, support market women, and award bursaries to over 1,000 students in higher institutions before the end of the year.

Just last week, Hon. Omoleye distributed laptop computers to all three local governments and five Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in his constituency, a feat described by the council chairmen as Unprecedented.

The statement described the publication in question as “a deliberate attempt to mislead the public” and urged media professionals to adhere to principles of factual reporting, balance and fairness.

“The globally respected Catholic church should rather focus on how to assess the growing complaints around religious bodies, while the NUJ should strive to better the welfare of its members, instead of pock nosing in partisan politics”

“Hon. Omoleye remains committed to his people. His track record is not just documented but visible in every ward, community, and local government he represents. No amount of distraction will derail his focus,” the media team asserted.

They further encouraged constituents and stakeholders to verify facts independently and continue to support the lawmaker as he delivers more dividends of democracy to the people of Ijero, Ekiti West, and Efon local government areas.
