Distinguished Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele (popularly known as MOB) is a Nigerian lawyer, human rights advocate, politician, and statesman. He currently serves as the Senate Majority Leader of the 10th National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and represents the good people of Ekiti Central Senatorial District under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
With a career spanning law, governance, legislative service, and political leadership, Senator Bamidele has built a reputation as a strategic thinker, institution builder, and advocate of democratic development.

Early Life and Education

Born on 29 July 1963 in Iyin-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Michael Opeyemi Bamidele was raised in an environment that valued education, discipline, community service, and leadership.
He obtained his Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Religious Studies from Obafemi Awolowo University (then University of Ife) in 1986. He subsequently studied Law at the University of Benin, where he earned his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree with honours in 1990.
After completing the Nigerian Law School programme, he was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1992.

In pursuit of global legal exposure, he obtained a Master of Laws (LL.M) in Intellectual Property Law from Franklin Pierce Law Centre (now University of New Hampshire School of Law), United States. He was later admitted to the New York Bar in 1999, expanding his legal practice internationally.
Legal Career and Human Rights Advocacy
Before his transition into mainstream politics, Senator Bamidele distinguished himself as a legal practitioner and human rights advocate.
Between 1997 and 2000, he worked with the Harvard Law School Immigration Clinic, Boston, Massachusetts, where he advocated for justice, human rights, and the protection of vulnerable communities.
Upon returning to Nigeria, he established Opeyemi Bamidele & Associates, a law firm focused on constitutional law, intellectual property, and legal consultancy. His legal background shaped his approach to governance, legislative reforms, and public policy.
Political Journey and Public Service
Senator Bamidele’s political journey began in the early 1990s when he contested for a seat in the House of Representatives during the Social Democratic Party (SDP) era.

His formal public service career began in 2000, when he was appointed Senior Special Assistant on Political and Inter-governmental Relations to the Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. In that role, he played a key part in political coordination and government relations.
