EKITI STATE GOVERNMENT DECLARES FRIDAY, JUNE 19, 2026, AS WORK-FREE DAY
Ado-Ekiti – The Ekiti State Government has declared Friday, June 19, 2026, a work-free day for all public servants across the state to enable them travel to their various voting centres ahead of the Ekiti State Gubernatorial Election scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026.
The approval was granted by the Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, as part of efforts to encourage citizens’ participation in the electoral process and ensure workers are adequately prepared to exercise their civic responsibilities.
According to an official circular issued by the Office of Establishments and Service Matters, the work-free day is intended to facilitate the smooth movement of public servants to their respective destinations before the election.
The government, however, clarified that the directive does not apply to personnel in essential service sectors. Hospitals and health centres, the Fire Service, and other critical service providers are expected to remain operational throughout the period. Heads of the affected Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) have been directed to draw up duty rosters to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
The state government also urged all eligible voters to conduct themselves peacefully and responsibly before, during and after the election while exercising their constitutional right to vote.
The circular announcing the work-free day was signed by Barr. B.O. Famoyin, Permanent Secretary, Office of Establishments and Service Matters, and was dated June 12, 2026.
