A new chapter in Ekiti State’s infrastructure development was written on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, as the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Senator Kashim Shettima, commissioned the newly constructed 1.2-kilometre Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu Flyover at Okeyinmi, Ado-Ekiti.

The Vice President, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the historic visit, was received at the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport by the Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, alongside top government officials and dignitaries.

The commissioning of the flyover, regarded as one of the landmark legacy projects of the Biodun Oyebanji administration, marked a significant milestone in the ongoing transformation of the Ekiti State capital and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to modern infrastructure, urban renewal, and economic development.

During the one-day working visit, Senator Shettima also performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the Ekiti Knowledge Zone (EKZ), a strategic innovation and technology hub designed to position Ekiti as a leading destination for knowledge-based investments. He further commissioned the newly completed Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) located along Old Iyin Road, Ado-Ekiti.

Speaking on the significance of the visit, Governor Oyebanji noted that strategic collaboration with the Federal Government, development partners, private sector stakeholders, and relevant institutions remains central to his administration’s development agenda. He expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for their continued support for Ekiti State’s growth and development.

The event attracted widespread commendation from traditional rulers, community leaders, residents, and stakeholders across the state.

In a special congratulatory message, the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, His Imperial Majesty Oba (Dr.) Rufus Adeyemo Adejugbe Aladesanmi III, CON, JP, described the completion and commissioning of the second flyover bridge in Ado-Ekiti as a monumental achievement and a clear demonstration of Governor Oyebanji’s commitment to responsive and purposeful governance.

The revered monarch warmly welcomed Vice President Kashim Shettima to Ekiti State, expressing gratitude for his presence at the historic occasion.

“This monumental project is a concrete signification of Governor Oyebanji’s commitment to purposeful and responsive governance of the Ekiti people,” the royal father stated.

Oba Adejugbe further noted that the construction and commissioning of the flyover, alongside other infrastructural developments and people-oriented policies of the administration, stand as enduring testimonies of the Governor’s dedication to the present and future prosperity of Ekiti State.

Offering prayers for the continued success of the administration, the monarch said the legacies being established today would endure for generations and remain beneficial to the people of Ekiti.

Tuesday’s visit marked Vice President Shettima’s second official visit to Ekiti State, following his earlier visit in May 2024, when he inaugurated the Omisanjana–Deeper Life–Ajebandele Road and the MSMSE Clinic in Ado-Ekiti.

With the commissioning of the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu Flyover, the groundbreaking of the Ekiti Knowledge Zone, and the inauguration of the EFCC Zonal Office, stakeholders described the Vice President’s visit as a defining moment in Ekiti’s development journey.

Indeed, history was made in Ekiti as another landmark project was delivered, symbolizing progress, connectivity, economic growth, and the shared vision of a greater Ekiti State.

Long Live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Long Live Ekiti State.
Long Live Ado-Ekiti.
