Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele Retains Ekiti Central APC Ticket Through Affirmation

By Femi Alufa

The Leader of the Senate, Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, has secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the Ekiti Central Senatorial District ahead of the next general election through an affirmation process conducted by the party.

Bamidele, popularly known as MOB, emerged unopposed during the APC senatorial primaries, polling the total accredited delegate votes cast during the affirmation exercise to clinch the party’s ticket.

Speaking shortly after the exercise, the Senate Leader attributed the outcome to divine grace, party unity, and the confidence reposed in him by party members and constituents.

He expressed gratitude to God and the people of Ekiti Central for what he described as a renewed mandate to continue his legislative service.

According to him, emerging as the sole candidate of the party comes with greater responsibility and a renewed commitment to quality representation.

“The fact that I am returning as an unopposed candidate of the party imposes a greater responsibility on me. I see it as a call to higher service and greater commitment to the people,” Bamidele stated.

He added that the affirmation reflected public appreciation of his contributions to governance and legislative leadership at the National Assembly.

The Senate Leader also acknowledged the role of the media in projecting his achievements and strengthening communication between his office and the grassroots.

“You have been able to project my modest contributions positively and served as a bridge between our office and the people,” he told journalists.

Speaking on internal democracy and political contests within the party, Bamidele noted that not every political contest must produce conflict, stressing that timing and party consensus often shape political outcomes.

Meanwhile, the spokesman of the Senate, Yemi Adaramodu, described the APC primary process in Ekiti South Senatorial District as peaceful, transparent, and impressive.

Adaramodu, who is seeking a return ticket to the Senate, is contesting against former Senate Minority Leader, Biodun Olujinmi, and former House of Representatives member, Bamidele Faparusi.

Expressing optimism about his chances, Adaramodu said his confidence was rooted in his legislative experience, progressive political background, and close relationship with the people.

“I am not a neophyte or a greenhorn in politics. I have served in the House of Representatives and now in the Senate. I understand the party, I understand the people, and I remain accessible to my constituents,” he said.

The senator emphasized his long-standing commitment to progressive ideals and grassroots politics, describing himself as a deeply rooted welfarist politician with strong sociological ties to his constituency.

“My DNA is progressive and people-oriented. I am on the streets, in the towns and villages, and the people know I am accessible. I do not rely only on the love of the people; I also work hard to provide for them,” Adaramodu added.

The APC primaries in Ekiti State are being closely watched as political stakeholders position themselves ahead of the forthcoming elections, with party leaders emphasizing unity, continuity, and consolidation of progressive governance in the state.
