OGEDENGBE FIESTA 2026 SET TO CELEBRATE YORUBA WAR HERO AND STATESMAN

Three-Day Heritage Festival to Highlight Leadership, Security, Peacebuilding and Cultural Legacy

The stage is set for the highly anticipated Ogedengbe Fiesta 2026, a three-day heritage and cultural festival organised in honour of the legendary Yoruba war hero, strategist, and statesman, Ogedengbe Agbogungboro (circa 1822 – July 29, 1910).

The festival, scheduled to hold from July 29 to July 31, 2026, will bring together traditional rulers, government officials, scholars, cultural enthusiasts, historians, and distinguished personalities from across Nigeria and beyond to celebrate the enduring legacy of one of the most celebrated figures of the Ekiti-Parapo (Kiriji) War and the Yoruba peace settlement era.

Themed:

“Ogedengbe Agbogungboro Legacy: Leadership, Security, and Statecraft for Modern Governance in Nigeria”

the fiesta is designed to preserve Yoruba historical memory, promote cultural tourism, and connect indigenous leadership values with contemporary governance and nation-building.

DAY 1 — HOMAGE TO ANCESTRAL ROOTS

Wednesday, July 29, 2026
Venue: Atorin Town, Atakumosa East Local Government Area, Osun State

Activities for the opening day will focus on paying homage to the ancestral homeland of Ogedengbe Agbogungboro. The event will feature traditional rites, cultural receptions, heritage storytelling, and historical reflections on the warrior’s origin, identity, and early life.

Community leaders, historians, and cultural custodians are expected to lead conversations aimed at deepening public understanding of Yoruba heritage and historical continuity.

DAY 2 — HERITAGE EXCURSION & HISTORICAL RECONCILIATION TRAIL

Thursday, July 30, 2026
Venue: Imesi-Ile, Osun State

The second day will feature a guided heritage excursion to the historic Kiriji War Memorial Peace Treaty Site in Imesi-Ile, Osun State.

Participants will visit notable historical landmarks including:

Ogedengbe Cave Bunker, Imesi -Ile

Ibu Latoosa Historical Site, Imesi -Ile

Yoruba Peace Treaty Grove, Imesi -Ile

Afe Babalola Gardens, Okemesi -Ekiti, Ekiti State

The excursion will also include historical reenactments, guided tours, and academic interpretations of the Kiriji War legacy and its significance in Yoruba by history and peacebuilding.

DAY 3 — LEGACY AWARDS, HALL OF FAME & DISTINGUISHED PERSONALITY LECTURE

Friday, July 31, 2026
Venue: Ilesa, Osun State

The grand finale will feature the Ogedengbe Legacy Awards and Hall of Fame Investiture, where distinguished individuals will be honoured for excellence in leadership, culture, public service, and contributions to society.
