Before entering full-time politics, Senator Bamidele built an accomplished legal career marked by advocacy for justice, democracy, and human rights. Upon his return to Nigeria, he established Opeyemi Bamidele & Associates, a law firm noted for excellence in constitutional and intellectual property law.

His political career spans over three decades and reflects an enduring commitment to transformational leadership. He served as Senior Special Assistant on Political and Inter-governmental Relations to then Lagos State Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu, playing a strategic role in governance and political coordination. As Commissioner for Youth, Sports and Social Development in Lagos State, he initiated impactful youth empowerment and social welfare programmes. He later served as Commissioner for Information and Strategy under Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola, where he strengthened public communication and policy advocacy.

From 2011 to 2019, Senator Bamidele represented Ekiti Central Federal Constituency I in the House of Representatives, where he chaired the House Committee on Legislative Budget and Research, promoting accountability, transparency, and legislative efficiency. Since 2019, he has served in the Nigerian Senate, earning re-election in 2023 and rising to the prestigious office of Senate Majority Leader in the 10th National Assembly.

Throughout his public life, Senator Bamidele has championed reforms in education, youth development, taxation, democratic governance, and legislative modernization. He is widely respected for his articulate leadership style, principled politics, calm disposition, and dedication to strengthening democratic institutions in Nigeria.

In recognition of his outstanding service to the nation and humanity, he was conferred with the national honour of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) in 2022 by former President Muhammadu Buhari. In 2025, he was elevated to the prestigious rank of Life Bencher by the Body of Benchers and awarded an Honorary Doctor of Law (LL.D) by Ekiti State University for his contributions to education, governance, and public policy.
