Kayode Ojo Condemns Afuye’s Remand Over WhatsApp Post Against Ekiti Senator
A Chieftain of All Progressives Congress APC in Ekiti State, Engr. Kayode Ojo has condemned the arrest and remand of a member of the Party , Mr. Idowu Afuye over his post on some WhatsApp Platforms against the Senator representing Ekiti North Senatorial District, Cyril Fasuyi.
Afuye, in a write up titled: “A tale of Two Senators; When Representation Meant Resonsibilty ” had praised the former Senate committee Chairman on Privatisation, Ayo Arise for facilitating the establishment of Federal University of Oye Ekiti FUOYE among other achievements while demanding the achievements of the current Senator in the District.
Ojo who is the pro Chancellor and Chairman Governing council of the UNN in a statement signed by his media aide Alhaji Deji Ayelabowo and made available to newsmen in Ado Ekiti described the current politically motivated arrest, prosecution and Persecution especially of APC members across the State as worrisome, disturbing, uncalled for and barbaric.
“It is now getting worse on daily basis the way Politicians or our representatives who are supposed to protect the Electorate have turned themselves to Dictators and tin gods who could not be questioned or asked for accountability over the public funds they are being entrusted with. Public Servants are elected or appointed to represent the People and at thesame time account for them as at when due”.
The question begets answer now is that, why Ekiti State will now be turned into a junta era or a land where Citizenry cannot demand the accountability or transparency from the government or their representatives?
It is unfortunate, untoward, regrettable and uncouth, the manner of arrests on trump up charges by the State government of APC members who are loyal to Engr. Kayode Ojo because they have refused to shift ground to government side in recent times.
“But now, it is even the turn of another APC member who is also an ardent Loyalist of Gov. Oyebanji by a Senator from thesame State”.
It could be recalled that, thesame Idowu Afuye had in recent past hurled a lot of jabs at my personality on the bill of some Politicians in Ekiti but as a Democrat, I had decided to allow him to express his views while I continue to uphold what I stand for.
The man, Afuye only demands to know the achievements of Senator Cyril Fasuyi as a People representative after more than two years in Office and I dn’t think, that, should be a crime in any sane Society where justice reigns.
“Justice demands that, the Senator as a true representative of the People ought to have asked his team to reply the electorate through the list of his achievements and explain in details what he has been doing with the constituency allowances as queried not to turn himself to a Dictator.
If you know you dn’t want criticism or people to demand transparency or accountability on their money you are just being lucky to enthrust with, you dn’t have business in politics. It is only a businessman that can say I made my money and I can use it the way I want and nobody can query such.
Therefore, every lover of Democracy must rise and condemn the unjust arrests and remands of Politicians across Ekiti State by the government or any representative not because they have committed any crime or offence whatsoever but rather they do not share same views with some People in power especially those who got there through their votes.
The action of some policemen especially members of Rapid Response Squad RRS in Ekiti State who are supposed to be chasing Criminals but now turned themselves to instrument in the hands of Politicians to arrest, intimidate, prosecute and persecute members of the public especially APC Loyalists is condemnable and must also be seen as such by all.
“Many APC members who had been arrested and hurriedly taken to Court for already prepared charges even before their arrest and remanded in the State have suffered same fate Afuye is suffering from Senator Cyril Fasuyi’s hands now”.
“Unjust arrest and remand should not be the dividends of Democracy for our People in Ekiti State because of their views or stands at any particular time. In politics, it is generally saying that, ” there is no permanent friends or enemies but rather permanent interest. That is, your friend today can be your enemy tomorrow and Vice versa.
“Therefore, traumatising Ekiti People through prison experience on trump up charges is condemnable and unacceptable”.
