Omoleye Facilitates NEMA Distribution of Relief Items to Rainstorm Victims in Ekiti Communities

As part of efforts to cushion the impact of recent rainstorms in parts of Ekiti State, the lawmaker representing Ekiti Federal Constituency II, Hon. Biodun Omoleye, has facilitated the distribution of relief materials provided by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to affected communities.

The beneficiary towns, which included Ipotì, Odo-Owa, Ejiyan, Owatedo, and Ijurin-Ekiti, were all hit by the devastating weather event, which left several homes damaged and disrupted livelihoods.

Speaking during the relief distribution exercise, Hon. Omoleye described the intervention as a response to his constitutional duty to safeguard the welfare of his constituents.

He disclosed that after being alerted to the severity of the rainstorm’s aftermath, he immediately approached NEMA headquarters in Abuja to seek emergency support.

Although the victims have since repaired their homes, the relief materials, especially the food items, are meant to ease the financial burden they faced while trying to recover. I’m thankful to God no lives were lost,” Omoleye said.

He also urged residents to adopt environmentally responsible practices, such as proper waste disposal, particularly during the rainy season, to prevent future disasters.

The lawmaker reaffirmed his commitment to pursuing policies and programmes that promote the well-being of his people.

Delivering the message of NEMA’s Director General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, the Head of Search and Rescue at the Ado-Ekiti Operations Office, Mr. Adesina Abogunrin, praised Hon. Omoleye for his proactive and people-focused leadership.

“Disaster management is a collective effort. We sympathise with those affected by the rainstorm and assure them that NEMA remains dedicated to providing timely and coordinated emergency responses. She also emphasised the need for increased investment in early warning systems, public awareness campaigns, and disaster risk reduction strategies,” Mrs. Umar said in her message.

Traditional rulers from the affected towns were also present at the event, where the Ojurin of Ijurin-Ekiti, Oba Joachim Ajibola, while speaking on behalf of others, commended Hon. Omoleye for his swift and compassionate response, describing the lawmaker as a consistent advocate for the needs of the people.

A representative of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Kolawole Titilayo, expressed deep appreciation to Omoleye and NEMA for prioritising the most vulnerable members of the community, particularly the elderly.

The relief items distributed included bags of rice, garri, vegetable oil, spaghetti, seasoning cubes, and other essential food supplies.
