The organisers of the 2026 Annual Ogedengbe Fiesta have announced plans for a three-day cultural and heritage celebration in honour of the legendary Yoruba war hero and statesman, Ogedengbe Agbogungboro.
According to a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti by Festival Director Femi Alufa, the event will hold from July 29 to July 31, 2026, across Atorin in Osun State, Imesi-Ile, Okemesi-Ekiti, and Ilesa.
The festival is aimed at celebrating the enduring legacy of Ogedengbe Agbogungboro, who played a prominent role during the Ekiti-Parapo (Kiriji) War and the Yoruba peace settlement era. Organisers say the event will attract traditional rulers, government officials, historians, scholars, cultural enthusiasts, and dignitaries from within and outside Nigeria.
The 2026 edition is themed: “Ogedengbe Agbogungboro Legacy: Leadership, Security, and Statecraft for Modern Governance in Nigeria.” The fiesta is designed to preserve Yoruba historical heritage, promote cultural tourism, and connect indigenous leadership values with modern governance and nation-building.
Activities on the opening day will focus on paying homage to Ogedengbe’s ancestral homeland through traditional rites, cultural receptions, storytelling sessions, and historical reflections led by community leaders and historians.
The second day will feature guided visits to major historical landmarks connected to the Kiriji War, including the Kiriji War Memorial Peace Treaty Site, Ogedengbe Cave Bunker, Ibu Latoosa Historical Site, the Yoruba Peace Treaty Grove in Imesi-Ile, and the Afe Babalola Gardens, Okemesi -Ekiti.
The grand finale on July 31 will host the Ogedengbe Legacy Awards and Hall of Fame Investiture, where 25 distinguished Nigerians will be honoured for outstanding contributions in leadership, culture, public service, and humanitarian impact in Ilesa,Osun State.
A major highlight of the event will be a distinguished personality lecture in honour of renowned legal icon and elder statesman Aare Afe Babalola founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti, ABUAD and the Arole Fabunmi of Okemesi -Ekiti.
