The bad News of his death spread throughout the media in the morning of June 26,2023.The erudite scholar died of a ghastly motor accident on his way from Delta State University,Abraka.

“He met his untimely death on Saturday evening,June 24,2023 in an auto crash in Ijebu Ode axis of Ore-Sagamu expressway.

The Dean, Faculty of Communication and Media Studies Lagos State University, Professor Sunday Alawode, confirmed his death in a statement on Sunday.”

Dr. Lai Oso was a Professor of Mass Communication School of Communication, Lagos State University (LASU). He was the Dean of the school between 2011 and 2015. Until his death,He was the President, Association of Communication Scholars & Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN).

He was educated at the University of Lagos (B.Sc. Mass Communication), Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (M.Sc. International Relations) and He obtained a Ph.D degree in Mass Communication as a Federal Government scholar at the University of Leicester, England in 1977

He worked as a Reporter both in Radio and the News Agency of Nigeria. He has taught courses at both undergraduate and post graduate levels. He has taught courses in Journalism, Media and Governance, Political Communication, Development Communication and theory.

Rude shock…Prof.Lai Oso…What a bad omen!
He was my Lecturer at the Lagos State University, School of Communication (Post Graduate School) along with Late Prof.Sophie Oluwole,Dr.Richard Olatunji (now Professor),Dr.Innocent Okoye (now Professor of Mass Communication at Afe Babalola University Ado-Ekiti, ABUAD) in 2006- 2008 post graduate years at the Lagos State University, School of Communication (Post Graduate School). These are erudite scholars that gave post graduate students of Communication good stuff in those years.

Prof Lai Oso was a Development Theory expert and a great communication scholar who introduced us to scholarly works of Walter Rodney (How Europe Underdeveloped Africa) and others.
His cerebral mind is missed dearly.
May his ebullient soul continue to rest in peace eternally.😭😭😭😭
